I like a big pond and a small pond, but the ecosystems are different. I think on a small forum you feel more accountable for your words - I certainly think more about people's feelings here : D Maybe it's because I feel that I know everyone somewhat, and you are less likely to go for rude throwaway comments when that person has a name, a face and a story. Also the stakes are higher - on SAS I can get into a brawl with someone or a few people, then go to a different part of the forum and ignore it. Talk to other people. Here a brawl would probably involve everyone. I like a bit of respectful bickering, but I do end up feeling sad and demotivated when people attack me personally rather than my views. Then I go off the forum and brood for a while. WillYouStopDave I'm pretty sure we had a bit of a tiff at some point : D probably over politics. This has become a very big problem especially in America. People have conflated their pov and opinions and take it very personal vs facts about things. Civil discourse was been eroded away. That's something taught. Now we have taught to malign and attack each other when the other pov doesn't align with yours. It is sad and demotivating. And your analogy of the big pond vs small pond fits very well comparing SAS to SAF. I feel much more ignored and lost in a sea of voices on SAS. SAF feels much more intimate and personal. And the size of the audience on SAF clearly has an impact on that. And my personal experience on SAS and onto SAF played out with the mods involving another member on SAS. So that made an impression on my perspective between SAS and SAF. It certainly humanized the mods vs just another computer interface so to speak.
