Just a thread to post positive feedback about what is good about the forum.

For example... I noticed that we now have some animated smileys and the photos resize themselves to fit the page and Jessica has been working on the skins. I like!

People seem friendlier here. Was just going to say similar. I think because it's a more tight-knit site where not as many people are all flocking in at once, some who are able to 'fit in' while others are ignored, is why I prefer this place. I also have other reasons that were pointed out in the past (privacy issues.) Another is that the forum has a classic look and not something that is complicated and 'app friendly'.

I’m glad people like it here. There are going to be a lot of themes to choose from, and I’m going to add a Theme Selector which I think is like the one on SAS to make it easy to change it. Each theme seems to have its own smileys, so if I save the best ones, there will be a lot of different, fun ones.

Sometimes I think bickering makes a forum more active. I noticed a long time ago on SAS I pretty much never get replies if I have something nice to say and always get quoted if I say something kinda harsh or disagreeable. I think the main reason SAS has been going down is that the people who are left are more and more alike. Unfortunately, people who get along well usually don't have much to say. But then it also goes in the other direction where you have people who are just being mean and trying to be the biggest jerk in the room and they won't stop until they get banned. Those people don't get ignored but their experience also isn't pleasant. I was once one of them on SAS, which I'm kind of ashamed of now. But that's how it was. My PM box used to be loaded with new quotes every day because I wasn't at all afraid of getting into arguments with people there. And I did often. In a way, I think that however much we might not want it to be, social interaction is kinda driven by conflict and people get bored fast with things that don't stimulate their need for conflict/competition. Which is what sports is all about. It's tough to get many people to get together and sit around and have a friendly chat. Put a couple of adversarial teams on the field in front of them and let them pick sides and you have something people will go out of their way for. I think it's also true that a lot of the people on SAS are passive followers. They will wait for someone else to say something instead of saying it themselves. Or they'll wait for someone to say something they don't like so they can try to tear it down. LOL I don't know. It's a weird situation. All of us who are left have obviously found enough to like at SAS to keep being there (and some of us here). But how long can we keep going if we don't figure out how to stimulate more activity? I'm not sure if that was helpful or not. In some ways it helped me IRL because when people start arguments with me IRL, they're usually similar to the arguments that have happened on SAS and I know exactly what to say to them because I've actually HAD TO think about what has to be said in detail in order to respond on SAS.

The one is good for the right situation but it seems kind of like more than LOL. LOL

People seem friendlier here. I think also on a more active forum, everything kind of depends on picking either a user name people like or an avatar people remember. Like I notice that I kind of tend to tune people out if their user name doesn't tickle my brain in a certain way or they either don't have an avatar or it's not stimulating to me. I don't do it on purpose. I don't want to completely ignore someone or pretend they don't matter or they don't exist (Well, sometimes I do if I don't like them but that is kinda rare if it's an honest and sincere poster). I remembered you because I thought a C137 was a plane. LOL But admittedly, usually when people choose something like a number for a name, it's hard for me to remember them and recognize them and associate their name with their past posts. It's risky to respond to people you don't recognize because you might be saying something that is way off base in the context of who they are and what they have posted before.

On more active forums, some people blend into one person to me. It doesn’t mean I don’t like them or care about them, but if I don’t know much about them, it’s easy for me to get them confused with other members. Some people might have a similar writing style or some things in common, which doesn’t help. It’s harder to do that on this forum because there aren’t enough people to get mixed up. It’s easier to get to know everyone better here, so I don’t get any members from here confused with anyone else on SAS anymore even if two I got mixed up with each other are here.

I like that it’s smaller and it feels more private because of that. I feel more comfortable posting here than on SAS for that reason.

I like a big pond and a small pond, but the ecosystems are different. I think on a small forum you feel more accountable for your words - I certainly think more about people's feelings here : D Maybe it's because I feel that I know everyone somewhat, and you are less likely to go for rude throwaway comments when that person has a name, a face and a story. Also the stakes are higher - on SAS I can get into a brawl with someone or a few people, then go to a different part of the forum and ignore it. Talk to other people. Here a brawl would probably involve everyone. I like a bit of respectful bickering, but I do end up feeling sad and demotivated when people attack me personally rather than my views. Then I go off the forum and brood for a while. WillYouStopDave I'm pretty sure we had a bit of a tiff at some point : D probably over politics.

When there are a lot of members - and especially when you have new people joining all the time - it can be difficult to get to know people. I like a more active forum, too, because it attracts good people, not just trolls. But I feel safer posting in a place where I recognize people and trust them.

WillYouStopDave I'm pretty sure we had a bit of a tiff at some point : D probably over politics. LOL I would not be surprised. Well, I guess I would be somewhat surprised because your name doesn't stand out in that way but frankly, I squabbled with people about mostly politics in various places all over the internet for the better part of 17 years before I learned my lesson so it's kind of all a blur now. Kind of turned what few brain cells I had left into steam and vented them out my ears. LOL

I like that it’s smaller and it feels more private because of that. I feel more comfortable posting here than on SAS for that reason. Actually, this forum has more than 50 members. Just most of them are not active and many never even log in. But also, most of them are (reasonably) trusted members from SAS. Many others have been invited but never came. But still might eventually. Still it will probably never be anything like SAS. But if they were all online at the same time, there would be almost as many members online as there are online on SAS at a given time. Which is a shadow of what it used to be but whatever.
